Meat Inspection Program

Abattoirs, other than those registered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency , are regulated under the provincial Meat Inspection Act (Meat Inspection Regulations) to assure that the facilities in which slaughter occurs are constructed and maintained in a manner that minimizes the risks of food safety.

Inspection of animals at slaughter is available through inspectors from Service NL which permits assurance that individual carcasses are safe for consumption.

For more information on the licensing and inspection of abattoirs please contact Service NL.
