The Montreal Gazette, in a brief article reviewing news from Labrador, states “Terrific blizzards swept over Labrador in February and many hunting parties had narrow escapes from death. At the height of one storm an avalanche of snow buried natives and their dog teams and the Eskimos freed themselves with great difficulty. The dogs perished. The rush of air created by the avalanche damaged the Eskimos’ snow houses and they had to build new ones”.
