Capacity Building and Opportunity Management

As a part of continuing to foster in the growth of communities and regions, supports are available for community and economic development stakeholders to build capacity, increase collaboration and support economic development to advance opportunities in regions.  Supports are available for stakeholders to assist them to assume the role of partners in regional economic and sector development.

The Community Capacity Building program is available to assist groups by enhancing skills essential to regional economic planning, development and implementation. The component offers capacity building modules, planning sessions, and industry development sessions to interested stakeholders with a clear link to economic and business development.

The objectives are:

  • To enable community-based economic development organizations to assume the role of partners in regional economic development
  • To deliver a comprehensive orientation program designed to help build and shape communities; and
  • To encourage collaboration and broad-based partnerships.

IET’s Opportunity Management (OM) is a facilitated process also used with stakeholders to identify and implement business and community development opportunities to sustain or improve the local economy. The approach utilizes a variety of techniques, research, exercises and the development of community-based assessment processes and evaluation criteria.  The process can be used working with  stakeholder groups on idea generation and collaborative recognition to assist in the advancement of community development initiatives
