1976: Spring runoff caused the rise of the Exploits River which inundated a section of highway west of Grand Falls in the Rushy Pond area; highway repair was estimated to cost $500 000; two people were drowned when their vehicle went off the highway and into 3m of water.

This area is located in an abandoned meander of the Exploits River and is subject to frequent floods. Most floods involve ice-dams, although floods occured in the summer in 1965, 1975 and 1976.

On April 22 1934 an ice jam flooded the community of Rushy Pond, submerging land to a depth of 7 feet in places.

December 30, 1971 to January 4 1972: ice cover and high water flows raised the level of Rushy Pond to road level.
