Two brothers were killed in a landslide. Aloysius and Clarence Gatherall of Bay Bulls on Monday morning (Oct 31, 1949) were taking gravel from an embankment at Pierres Brook when the embankment collapsed burying both men. Aloysius was instantly killed and his brother died later that day at the General Hospital in St. John’s. Pierres Brook is 1 mile east of Witless Bay.
