The Evening telegram reported that Uriah Thorne and two other men were casting for caiplin at White Rock Cove, between Flatrock and Pouch Cove, when several tons of earth and rock fell from the cliff into the sea. The landslide struck the boat, bending the shaft of the grapnel, but the boat stayed afloat and all escaped injury.
