A 3.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded centred 37 km WSW of Bay Roberts at 22:56 on April 28. It was felt over a wide area, including the Burn Peninsula and Southern Shore. Residents reported shaking and rumbling noises, with pictures being shaken from walls.

Previous earthquakes were felt in this area in 1956 and 1884.
