Early in 1984 a tragedy occurred when a visiting 16 year old boy (Jeffery James Cull of Carmanville) was killed while climbing on the slope face. He was crushed when a large (1m) block (2000 lbs) detached from the face and pinned him into a crevice. Before this report rockfalls (1-2m in size) have occurred once every one or two years. Smaller blocks have fallen much more frequently. Wooden fence posts have been broken and blocks have landed in back yards. A search and rescue helicopter lifted the boulder from the slope before it caused further damage.
