1. Why does the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador have an Office of French Services?

The primary purpose of the Office of French Services is to help build the capacity of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to serve the Francophone community of the province.

3. Does the Office of French Services offer translation services to the public?

No. The Office of French Services (OFS) offers its translation services to provincial Government departments only. However, the OFS does serve as point of contact for members of the public who wish to obtain information or service in French.

4. Is there a Francophone community in Newfoundland and Labrador?

Yes. There are 3,045 Francophone residents in the province, which represents 0.6 per cent of the total population. (Source: 2016 Census). The Francophone population is concentrated in St. John’s, on the Port au Port Peninsula and in Western Labrador.
