Building Accessibility Design Registration

A Building Accessibility Design Registration is issued for a building or part thereof that is either being constructed, reconstructed or renovated where the work is required to conform to the Buildings Accessibility Act and Regulations. This registration would apply to public buildings, apartment-type buildings and hotels where:

  1. The building permit was issued after December 24, 1981
  2. The building was granted a building permit prior to December 24, 1981, but the amount of renovations and reconstruction exceeded 50% of the replacement cost of the building
  3. A building addition contains a principal entrance
  4. A building addition is greater than 300 square meters
  5. The building is reclassified from a previously exempted occupancy (i.e. group F occupancies or residential homes)

Requirements

  1. A completed application (34 KB)
  2. 3 sets of plans outlining:
    1. A site plan showing a barrier free path of travel from a designated handicapped parking space to the accessible entrance to the building
    2. A floor plan showing the size of all rooms, doors and passageways and other miscellaneous details requiring attention
    3. A washroom detail showing the size and location of all fixtures within the room
  3. Fees (see below)

Buildings less than 250m² in building area $120.00 (H.S.T. not applicable)
Buildings greater than 250m² and less than 600m² in building area $240.00 (H.S.T. not applicable)
Buildings greater than 600m² in building area $480.00 (H.S.T. not applicable)

Applications can be submitted to EngineeringInspection@gov.nl.ca or the nearest office location.
