Provincial Grant Disbursement

Most student financial assistance provided by StudentAidNL is deposited by the National Student Loan Service Centre on behalf of the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. However, there is some provincial funding that is released by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, through the Department of Finance:

  • Provincial Part-Time Incentive Grant;
  • Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities (CSG-DSE);
  • Provincial Debt Reduction Grant; and
  • Provincial Early Childhood Education Grant.

All borrowers who are assessed to receive one or more of these grants must register their banking information with the Department of Finance in order to receive their funds. StudentAidNL will contact you via email if this information is needed.

Please ensure your email address is up to date with StudentAidNL to ensure you receive important notifications regarding funding. You may also be contacted by the Department of Finance to verify information, such as your address. Please review your Junk/Spam folder to ensure no correspondence is missed. Failure to respond to the emails will result in funding delays.

2.     What grants does StudentAidNL administer?

StudentAidNL administers the following grants:

  • Provincial Part-Time Incentive Grant;
  • Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities (CSG-DSE);

3.     How will I be notified if I am eligible for funding?

StudentAidNL will contact you via email. Please ensure your email address is up to date with StudentAidNL to ensure you receive important notifications regarding funding. You may also be contacted via email to verify information such as an address.

4.     Why do I need to confirm my address?

StudentAidNL uses the address that is associated with your banking information (the address that is on your direct deposit form/void cheque) to verify you in the financial system.  Students often change addresses and sometimes the address on the banking information does not match what is in our files.  If your address or permanent address changes throughout your education, we encourage you to update your address online.

You can sign in and update your address at StudentAidNL.

5.     How does the Department of Finance deposit my funds?

By direct deposit. You are required to register with the Department of Finance as a ‘supplier’ and include your banking information to receive your funding.

You can register at https://www.gov.nl.ca/fin/supplier-form/.

6.     I have already provided banking information for a grant in the past. Do I have to submit this information again?

Once you are setup for direct deposit with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, you are not required to complete this form again unless any of the following changes:

  • Your banking information;
  • Your mailing address; or
  • Your name.

You can email StudentAidNL (studentaidenquiry@gov.nl.ca) to notify us that your information remains the same. If your information has changed and needs updating, please follow the instructions above to complete the supplier form (https://www.gov.nl.ca/fin/supplier-form/).

No. Under no circumstances will StudentAidNL deposit money into an account that does not belong to you.

8.     How long will it take for funds to be deposited in my account?

Once your supplier form is submitted, it could take up to 15-20 business days to receive your funds, depending on the time of year.  If you are awaiting CSG-DSE or Part-time funding, your enrolment must be confirmed with the school before funds can be released.  You will be contacted by email if anything is required from you during this process.

9. Why is the Department of Finance contacting me?

You may be contacted via email by the Department of Finance if there are any issues with your supplier form. If you are contacted by the Department of Finance you must respond to resolve the issue (not doing so will result in payment delays).
