Returning Full-Time Students

Each academic year students must reapply if financial assistance is required. Students can apply by logging into their StudentAidNL account.

Attending Full-Time but Financial Assistance Not Required

Students must confirm their enrolment with the National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC) for any semester in which they are registered full-time but financial assistance is not required to ensure their previous loans remain in interest-free, non-repayable status.

Students can confirm enrolment in one of two ways:

  1. Sign on to the NSLSC Online Services and navigate to the “Confirm your enrolment” section; or
  2. Contact the school’s administration/ registrar’s office to request they electronically confirm the student’s enrolment with the NSLSC.

Note: Students can complete the confirmation of enrolment electronically in most instances; however, some schools will ask the student to complete a form called a ‘Schedule 2’. If the school provides this form, students should contact StudentAidNL for next steps.

Students having difficulty accessing their NSLSC Online Services should contact the NSLSC at 1-888-815-4514.

Applying for Assistance for Second Semester Only

Students who are attending post-secondary for both the fall and winter semesters but, are requesting financial assistance for the winter semester only (or winter and spring semesters but requesting assistance for spring only) should:

  • submit an online application and any required forms,
  • submit an Income Confirmation Form (ICF) confirming their pre-study period income (the time between the end of the last period of full-time studies and the first day of classes for the current academic year, for a minimum of four weeks to a maximum of 17 weeks), and
  • advise StudentAidNL of any earnings or other financial resources received during the first semester study period.

Students attending an educational institution other than Memorial University, Marine Institute or the College of the North Atlantic are required to submit a Full-Time Program Cost Form completed by a representative of their educational institution including information for both the fall and winter semesters.

Applying for Assistance for Third Semester Only

Students who have received student financial assistance for two semesters during the current academic year and require assistance for the third semester should:

Students who have not received student financial assistance for the current academic year must complete the regular Full-time Application available online. A full-time application is required if there is a change in marital status or a change in the Educational Institution.

All forms are available on our website at Forms and Documentation.

Assistance for Shorter Periods of Study

Student financial assistance is available for periods of study that are at least six weeks in duration; however, the study period requested must be part of a program of study that is at least 12 weeks in duration. In these situations, the student must submit a completed application no later than two weeks after the start of classes. All other conditions remain the same.
