Early Learning and Child Care Resources

The Early Learning and Child Development Division of the Department of Education, facilitates the growth and stability of programs that foster healthy child development. The department works with regulated child care centres, family child care homes, family resource centres, and other well recognized early learning programs such as Mother Goose and Roots of Empathy to ensure best practices in early childhood education and family supports.

The department helps support families in accessing child care, and monitors, and licenses child care facilities across the province. Departmental employees work with child care providers to build capacity in the community and to promote best practices in child care settings.

In this province, child care must be regulated where a child care service meet definitions 2(f) and 2(g)    of the Child Care Act. Exemptions are outlined in section 3 of the Child Care Regulations. All regulated child care must follow the Child Care Act and meet the minimum required standards to maintain their licence. Regional Early Learning and Child Development staff visit regularly to ensure the standards are met and to support licensees/providers to exceed these standards.
