The Partnership Act was amended and received Royal Assent on June 4, 2008. Amendments created a new Part II to the Act dealing with the formation and registration of limited liability partnerships and extra-provincial limited liability partnerships.

The Department of Justice holds responsibility for the Partnership Act. The Commercial Registrations Division, Digital Government and Service NL is charged with administering the Registry of Limited Liability Partnerships.

Registration as a limited liability partnership is restricted to a partnership consisting of partners who practice in an eligible profession that has met all applicable eligibility requirements for practice as a limited liability partnership that are imposed under the Act that regulates the eligible profession.
