Canada Games

Held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games are a key event in the development of young athletes in Canada. Athletes train long and hard to be among those chosen to represent their province or territory at the Canada Games. The Canada Games are a key step in the development of athletes in this country and may advance to compete at national, international, Olympic and Paralympic levels.

Since the inception of the Canada Games program in 1967, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has been a proud and enthusiastic supporter of the Games. The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation provides funding to Provincial Sport Organizations (PSO) to prepare their athletes, coaches and managers for Canada Games competitions.

Newfoundland and Labrador first hosted the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s in 1977 and in 1999, hosted the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook in 1999. The 2025 Canada Summer Games will be hosted by the City of St. John’s from August 8-25, 2025.
