
The physical activity programs and initiatives below, support and align with the national physical activity policy endorsed by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador on May 31, 2018 called A Common Vision for Increasing Physical Activity and Reducing Sedentary Living In Canada.
Active For Life Program
Active for Life is a physical activity program through Recreation NL, designed to assist older adults with maintaining their health and quality of life, while reducing their risk of falls. This program focuses on physical activity as a way to maintain or increase mobility, strengthen muscles, improve balance and reduce the risk of falling among older adults. The Active for Life program consists of a warm-up, strengthening exercises, balance exercises, obstacle course that will test many different skills and abilities and a cool down.

Bicycle Newfoundland and Labrador Safe Cycling Awareness Campaign
Bicycle Newfoundland and Labrador (BNL) is a non-profit, member based organization and the governing body for the sport of cycling in Newfoundland and Labrador. BNL created a safe cycling awareness social media campaign that consisted of the following short videos:

KidSport NL
KidSport™ is a children’s charitable program, that was initially established in 1993 by Sport BC. The conception of KidSportTM was due to recognition that barriers including the rising costs for sport registration fees and equipment were negatively affecting children’s participation in sport. KidSportTM believes in the fundamental values and benefits that sport provides.
KidSportTM provides children with:
- The opportunity to enjoy a season of children’s sport programming;
- Healthy habits that will last their whole lives;
- Valuable life lessons and skills including leadership, practice, hard work, dedication, and
self- confidence; - Access to mentorship and guidance from coaches.

NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills Workshop
The NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills module, presented by TeamSnap, is designed for coaches, educators, and recreation/youth/sport leaders who want to learn how to observe, detect, and correct the fundamental movement skills to guide the physical development of children. By helping children develop the building blocks of movement, we can support them to be active for their lifespans.

Participation Nation
Participation Nation is delivered by School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador. Participation Nation is a recreational program that engages the natural energy of students, channeling it into an exerpeicne that is fun, inclusive, non-competitive, and contributes to the achievement of a healthy lifestyle. Participation Nation includes a variety of programs targeted at students from K-12 including Play for Fun, Unplugged and Outdoor Adventure program.
