The Budget Process
The annual Budget is the key policy document of the Provincial Government. It announces new spending, anticipated revenues and provides a provincial economic forecast. The Budget is a major vehicle for carrying out the priorities of the Provincial Government.
The Department of Finance is responsible for coordinating the annual budgetary process for the Provincial Government, which is integrated, collaborative, and consultative. In doing so the Department works with other government departments, agencies, boards and commissions to prepare, review and analyze budgetary requests. This information is then used to inform Government’s budgetary decisions about multi-year forecasts for revenues, expenditures and cash requirements.
Pre-Budget Consultation
Each year the Minister of Finance oversees a pre-budget consultation process, which is designed to provide key stakeholders, individuals and interest groups an opportunity to identify budget priorities for consideration during the upcoming provincial budget. Interested parties can participate in the pre-budget consultations in one or more of the following ways:
- In-person at a stakeholder consultation session: registration information and schedule
- Providing a written submission to the Minister of Finance
