Population Projections — Simulator

About the Simulator

The Newfoundland and Labrador Population Projections Simulator is being offered so that users can observe the sensitivity of population projections to changes in key assumptions.
The main factors that determine population trends over time are the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and net migration. This simulator allows users to choose from five different assumptions
for the total fertility rate and seven different assumptions for net migration. To provide some context for the choices available, historical charts for Newfoundland and Labrador’s total fertility rate and net migration are provided below.
For further information on historical changes in Newfoundland and Labrador’s fertility rate and net migration see Demographic Overview. The results, for the total population, are displayed in chart form. A schematic of the components of population change as well as definitions are available in the Definitions section.
