Former US Military Mid Canada Line Radar Site 212 Border Beacon

In 2015, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of the former United States Military Mid Canada Line (MCL) Radar Site 212 known as Border Beacon, located approximately 190 kilometers west of the Town of Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador.  The purpose of the Phase I ESA was to identify, through non-intrusive investigation, the existence of any significant actual or potential areas of environmental impairment associated with the Site. The Phase I ESA was conducted in general accordance with the Canadian Standard Association (CSA) Standard Z768-01 for conducting ESAs.

In 2017, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities completed a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at the former United States Military Mid Canada Line (MCL) Radar Site 212 Border Beacon.  The purpose of the Phase II ESA investigation was to determine current environmental conditions of the property.

In 2019, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities completed a Phase III Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment (HHERA) at the former United States Military Mid Canada Line (MCL) Radar Site 212 Border Beacon.
