Clearance Certificates

Description

Clearance certificates are related to the sale of property or businesses across Newfoundland and Labrador. It identifies whether or not a person or company is subject to a determination (i.e. an order to resolve a labour standards violation) issued by the Labour Standards Division. Clearance certificates are usually requested by lawyers on behalf of their clients.

Decision-Making Process

APPLICATIONS

Day 1: Complete the online application. Confirm amount and submit for payment.

ASSESSMENT

Day 2: A Detailed Transactions Report with your application information will be downloaded from the Department of Finance, Centralized Web Receipting and reviewed by a Labour Standards representative.

APPROVAL

Day 3: A search is conducted to ensure that the company or individual is not subject to a determination issued by the Labour Standards Division. If the application is approved, the clearance certificate will be sent to the email address provided. If denied, a Labour Standards Officer will contact the requesting firm or individual to discuss the reason for the decision.

Service Standards

Service standards are intended to describe wait times under normal circumstances.  The following service standard applies to request for clearance certificates issued by the Labour Standards Division.
