Project Description:

The proposed amendment is to harvest 2,400 cubic metres of hardwood in the South Pond area, located approximately 7 kilometres south of the community of South Brook, Halls Bay on the eastern side of the Trans Canada Highway (TCH). The proposal is to harvest timber from 140 hectares of mature and over mature hardwood stands left from previous softwood operations. The Crown (Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods) assume responsibility for this operation from Corner Brook Pulp and Paper (CBPP) District 9 (Springdale area)Operating Plan.

  • November 22, 2002 – The undertaking was registered.
  • December 30, 2002 – Public comments are due.
  • January 6, 2003 – The Minister’s decision was due.
  • January 13, 2003 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
