Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent plans to construct a six (6) kilometre snowmobile trail on the south side of Hinds Lake, in central Newfoundland. The proposed trail will connect the existing snowmobile trail to a road near the Hinds Lake spill dam at the eastern end of the lake. The rational for the trail is to by-pass an unsafe section of trail, originally approved over water and the new trail will skirt around bogs in the area.

• September 8, 2003 – The undertaking was registered.
• October 14, 2003 – Public comments are due.
• October 23, 2003 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• November 13, 2003 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
