Project Description:

The proponent intends to construct a mink farm on 48.3 hectares of land (former Cook Dairy Farm Property) at the northeastern end of Windsor Heights (St. John’s & Portugal Cove-St. Phillips) which is within the boundaries of an Agricultural Designated Area (ADA). There will be six fully enclosed 12 metre by 60 metre mink sheds, housing approximately 2,000 to 6,000 females, and a 15 metre by 30 metre building for the preparation of feedstuffs. Manure and bedding will be removed from the buildings at appropriate intervals for application as fertilizer to cleared sections of the site. Intact carcasses will be shipped from the Province in temperature controlled vehicles for skinning.

  • November 6, 2003 – Public comments were due.
  • November 16, 2003 – The Minister’s decision is due.
  • December 2, 2003 – The Minister announced that the undertaking has been released from further environmental assessment.
