Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent plans to construct a two lane gravel surface highway for an approximate distance of 20.3 km connecting William’s Harbour to the Pinsents Arm access road. The highway will allow the residents of Williams Harbour to enjoy the benefits associated with having a fixed transportation link with other communities on the Southeast coast of Labrador. The proposed routing begins on the Pinsents Arm access road approximately 5.5 km from the community. The highway will be constructed to a Rural undivided 60 km/hr design standard and hold a posted speed limed of 60 km/hr. There will be a total of 45 culverts and one 40m Bailey bridge along the route. Road construction is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2004.

  • November 22, 2003 – The Minister’s decision is due.
  • November 17, 2004 – The Minister announced the proponent has withdrawn the project.
