Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent plans to construct a mink fur farm in Cox’s Cove, Bay of Islands area in Western Newfoundland. The proposed fur farm will be located on a 54 hectare site within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Cox’s Cove. The fur farm will be located approximately 3.5 kilometres along Country Road to the Southeast of the Town. The proponent plans to introduce 450 bred females and to increase to 5,000 female breeders within 3 years thus producing approximately 20,000 kits. Construction on the site will include sheds to house the mink and other related structures.

• October 31, 2003 – The undertaking was registered.
• December 15, 2003 – Public comments are due.
• December 19, 2003 – The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
