Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate two wind turbine generators at St. Brendan’s on Cottel Island, Bonavista Bay approximately 400 metres west of the Hydro plant. The proposal is for two 50 kilowatt (kW) wind turbines which will generate 100 kilowatts (kW) of electrical power, on 24-30 metre high lattice towers, with 15 metre diameter-3 bladed rotors. Power from the wind turbines will be sold to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro to supplement the existing diesel generating plant for distribution and resale to customers. Construction for the project will also include a control panel room and transmission line to bring power to the Hydro plant.

• July 29, 2004 – The undertaking was registered.
• September 2, 2004 – Public comments are due.
• September 28, 2004 – The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment subject to conditions.
