Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct a new breakwater wharf extending from the existing wharf and dredging work for berthage at the Marine Service Centre site in Port Saunders. Construction will also include a new site access road. The undertaking is expected to be completed over a multi-year period, commencing in the autumn of 2004 with construction of the new access road, and breakwater wharf scheduled for 2005 and 2006. Operation and maintenance of the facility will be under the control of the Port Saunders Harbour Authority with the support of DFO Small Craft Harbours.

• September 13, 2004 – The undertaking was registered.
• October 19, 2004 – Public comments are due.
• October 28, 2004 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• November 17, 2004 – The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
