Proponent: Anemos Energy Corporation

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a wind farm consisting of 5 to10 turbines of 1 to 2 Megawatts each, generating a total output of 10 Megawatts, at the Goulds in the City of St. John’s off Shoal Bay Road. The purpose of the wind farm is to generate electricity for sale to Newfoundland Power for distribution. The wind farm will be located on an area of land approximately 2.5 square kilometres and each turbine will consist of a foundation, tubular tower, nacelle and rotor with hub heights ranging from 50 to 100 metres high and rotor diameters of 52 to 80 metres. Shoal Bay Road will be improved, graded and widened and an extension will provide access to each turbine. An above ground transmission line will deliver power from the site to the existing Newfoundland Power substation at Bay Bulls Big Pond. Construction is planned to occur over a 6 to 9 month period in 2006 with power generation planned to commence in late 2006.
