Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop a gold mine using open pit methods and conducting all milling and processing on site. The site is located at Pine Cove, which is approximately 5 kilometres north east of Baie Verte and approximately the same distance south east of Ming’s Bight. Access will be by existing woods roads, which will be upgraded as required. The open pit will comprise a total area of approximately 9.8 hectares when complete. The pit will reach a maximum depth of 150 metres along the south wall. It is anticipated that 2.4 million tonnes of ore and 9.8 million tonnes of rock will be removed.

• March 8, 2005 – The undertaking was registered.
• April 12, 2005 – Public comments are due.
• May 10, 2005 – The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
