Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent proposes to construct a mink fur farm at L’Anse-au-Diable and a feed kitchen at West St. Modeste, in southern Labrador . Construction is proposed to include 12 mink sheds/barns (100 metres by 7 metres each), plus storage and pelting sheds, surrounded by perimeter fencing on a 5 acre site. Additional lands totaling 38 acres will be developed for manure spreading. The proponent plans to start with 500 female breeding mink in April of 2006 and in 2 to 3 years expand to 5,000 female breeders producing approximately 20,000 kits per year. The feed kitchen to service the mink farm is proposed to be located in a former fish plant at 2 Marine Drive in West St. Modeste. The feed kitchen will have a production capacity of 2 million pounds per year for processing and freezing primarily raw fish materials.

- January 6, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
- January 13, 2006 – The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
