Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a wind turbine power generation farm at a site near Top Pond, in southwestern Newfoundland , approximately 25 kilometres north of Burgeo, and is accessible from Route 480 via a gravel access road. The proposed wind farm will consist of a total of 13 wind turbines between 58 and 70 metres in height with a blade diameter of 71 metres. Each turbine will produce 2 megawatts (MW) of power for a total output of 26 MW. The wind generation facility will be connected to the power grid via the existing transmission line near Grandy’s Brook Terminal Station, with the intention being to sell power to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro under contract. Construction is scheduled to commence during the Spring of 2008 and be operational during the Fall of 2008.

  • July 3, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
  • July 28, 2006 – The Minister announced the undertaking has been released from further environmental assessment review, subject to conditions.
