Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent proposes to construct 1.8 kilometres of Class 2 primary forest access road, and harvest approximately 11,332 cubic metres of merchantable softwood in a 168 hectare area approximately 3 kilometres east of the community of Castor River South, on the Northern Peninsula . This area falls outside the current District 17 Five-Year Operating Plan. The operation will be an integrated sawlog/pulpwood operation, utilizing mechanical harvesters and forwarders. The undertaking was registered on June 12, 2006; Public comments are due by July 19, 2006; and, the Minister’s decision is due by July 27, 2006.

- July 27, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
- July 28, 2006 – the Minister announced the undertaking has been released from further environmental assessment review.
