Fermeuse Wind Turbine Power Project

Proponent: Vector Wind Energy Inc.

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent plans to construct a 24 Megawatt (MW) wind turbine generator farm approximately 800 metres to the west of the Town of Fermeuse, off Route 10, Avalon Peninsula, as per Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s request for proposals for wind power generation. The proponent proposes two alternatives for its project: (1) installation of sixteen 1.5 MW turbines, or (2) twenty 1.2 MW turbines, for a total project capacity of 24 MW. The wind turbine generators will be between 69 and 85 metres in height, with a 3 blade rotor diameter of between 62 and 77 metres. Construction at the site would also include approximately 8.5 kilometres of roads to access the turbines, transformers, and transmission lines for connection to Newfoundland Power’s Transformer Substation.
