Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate 13 to 20 horizontal axis, 3 blade wind turbines and associated infrastructure to generate 25 megawatts of electrical power to the north of highway Route 370 approximately 9 kilometres east of the town of Buchans . Overall height of the turbines from grade to height of blade would be approximately 90 to 100 metres. Power generated would be supplied to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro sub station at Buchans Brook. Associated infrastructure includes access roads, concrete foundations, transformers and overhead transmission lines. Construction is planned to commence in the late summer/early fall of 2007 with commissioning of the turbines by November 2008.

• August 18, 2006 – Public comments are due.
• August 28, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• November 9, 2006 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment subject to conditions.
