Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to harvest a total of 56,200 cubic metres of mature to over-mature timber, representing approximately 650 hectares in Forest Management District 10, Peterview Ridge Area in central Newfoundland . This proposed area is scheduled for harvest during the fall of 2006 and winter of 2007. To access the timber, Abitibi propose to construct 13.1 kilometres of new roads.

• August 3, 2006 – The undertaking was registered.
• September 11, 2006 – Public comments are due.
• September 17, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• September 29, 2006 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
