Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to harvest a total of approximately 39,600 cubic meters of timber, on a 300 hectare parcel of land near Harpoon Brook, in central Newfoundland . This proposed harvest is outside the current five-year operating plan for District 12. Approximately seven kilometres of operational road will be constructed, and one kilometre will be up-graded to access the timber, which is scheduled for harvest during the summer and fall of 2007.

• May 9, 2007 – The undertaking was registered.
• June 14, 2007 – Public comments are due.
• June 23, 2007 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• July 4, 2007 – The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
