Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proposal is for the development of a 0.69 hectare sand quarry and a 900 metre access road that will extend southeast from the municipal solid waste disposal site within Inuit Community Lands (as defined by the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement). The quarry area is bounded by the Makkovik Brook to the east and north.

• October 26, 2007 – The undertaking was registered.
• November 30, 2007 – Public comments are due.
• December 10, 2007 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• February 12, 2008 – The Minister releases the undertaking from environmental assessment subject to conditions.
