Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent will construct a new manufacturing plant to produce an emulsion blasting agent with the primary components being ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. The site is located five kilometers west of Corner Brook on a forest access road off the TCH. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008, and will include a pre-engineered steel building (15 metre X 18 metre), a 50 ton steel silo, and a three kilometre transmission line.

• November 27, 2007 – The undertaking was registered.
• January 8, 2008 – Public comments are due.
• January 11, 2008 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• March 11, 2008 – The Minister releases the undertaking from environmental assessment subject to conditions.
