Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The Land Management Division of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment proposes to develop approximately 25 remote recreational cottage lots within the Big Cook’s Pond Cottage Planning Area. The Big Cook’s Pond Cottage Planning Area is situated approximately 14 kilometres southwest of the City of Corner Brook. Direct passenger vehicle access to the lots is not allowed because 20 of the lots are adjacent to the T’Railway Provincial Park, where vehicular access is not permitted. The remaining 5 lots are only accessible by walking, boat, snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle. The planning area comprises approximately 2,000 hectares. The total land area to be developed is 10 hectares. Development of cottage lots will be undertaken by individual owners once allocation has been completed.

  • May 11, 2009 – Public comments are due.
  • May 17, 2009 – The Minister’s decision is due.
  • August 21, 2009 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
