Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proposal is to develop a cranberry farm on a peat bog located west of the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, adjacent to the Trans Canada Trailway near Rushy Pond. Construction will include the development of a portion of the bog into approximately 40.5 hectares of cranberry field beds. This development will include an irrigation/ sediment pond, auxiliary buildings, water control structures, drainage tile in the bed, and berm construction. Harvesting includes flooding each field with 45 centimetres of water, independently, and removal with a cranberry beater. The project is scheduled to commence in July, 2009 if approved.
- June 8, 2009 – The undertaking was registered.
- July 15, 2009 – Public comments are due.
- July 23, 2009 – The Minister’s decision is due.
- August 21, 2009 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
