Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description

The proposal is to develop a cranberry farm on a 101 hectare peat bog. The site, known as Bursey’s Marsh, is located approximately 22 kilometres north of Gander on the Gander Bay Highway Route 330. Construction of the cranberry beds is scheduled over two years with half of the area developed each year. Sand, fertilizers and pesticides will be applied to the cranberry beds during operation. Harvesting of the cranberries includes flooding each field, in succession, with approximately 45 centimetres of water and removal with a cranberry beater.
