Rocky Hr. Cottage Dev. Plan Amend. 4

Proponent: Land Management Division, Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The project consists of the fourth amendment to the Rocky Harbour Cottage Development Plan. The proponent proposes the development of 50 new remote recreational cottage lots within the Rocky Harbour Cottage Planning Area located within an enclave inside Gros Morne National Park, 5 kilometres east of the community of Rocky Harbour on the west coast of Newfoundland. Access to the enclave is across a 30 meter parcel of land under the jurisdiction of Gros Morne National Park adjacent to Route 430. All cottage sites are considered remote and accessible only by walking, snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle (licensed trails only). A 0.4 hectare parcel of Crown Land will be allocated for each cottage lot with typical dimensions of 45m x 90m. Currently there are 41 licensed cottage lots located in six designated cottage development areas within the enclave. Development of cottage lots will be the responsibility of individual cabin owners once allocation has been completed.
