Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The project involves the construction of a rubble mound breakwater to provide protectionto an adjacent finger pier wharf. The area between the breakwater and the existing fingerpier wharf will also be infilled to provide an expanded service area. The breakwater willhave an approximate length of 120 metres at the waters surface, extending in a generallysouthern direction with an overall footprint (breakwater and infill for new service area) of7,000 square metres. The armourstone material will be trucked to the site and will beplaced using an excavator(s), working above the high water mark, from theshoreline/breakwater structure or atop a barge. The successful contractor will determinethe exact construction methodology and source for the armourstone. Construction isexpected to require 3 to 4 months to complete and is tentatively scheduled for the2010/2011 fiscal year.
