Burin Peninsula Multi-use Eco-Tourist Trail Loop

Proponent: Burin Peninsula Trail Board Inc.

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop a network of multiuse trails via the construction of several connector trails. The combined trail system, of approximately 300 kilometres, will loop around a large part of the Burin Peninsula. This network will include existing trails such as the Powder Horn Trail, Garnish Trail, Point Rosie Trail, Garnish Pond Trail System and the Lance au Loup Trailway. Once the loops are in place, a final phase is intended to connect the Burin Peninsula trail to the Newfoundland T’Railway at Goobies. The total length of the new trail will be 75 kilometres and will cross 30 streams using culverts and bridges. The project is expected to be completed over a five-year period, with construction beginning in 2011.
