Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent intends to develop a 15-hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, east of the Trans Labrador Highway. The site will be accessed by an 800-metre access road to be constructed by the proponent.The quarry will provide sand and gravel for use in concrete production. Aggregate material will be excavated, crushed, washed and screened at the site. The project is scheduled to begin in May 2012.

• January 18, 2012 – The undertaking was registered.
• February 23, 2012 – Public comments are due.
• March 3, 2012 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• April 19, 2012 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
