Project Description:

The proponent proposes to establish a facility to produce pressure treated lumber to market local businesses and consumers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The facility will be located on the site of the former Jamestown Lumber Company Limited properties. The proposed facility will include make use of existing infrastructure including a 2200 square foot dry kiln with shaving boiler; a 7470 square foot sawmill building; a 9700 square foot planer mill; a 1780 square foot garage; and a 1500 square foot office. There are two drilled wells on the property that will be utilized as well as an existing septic system. The facility will produce pressure treated lumber and other manufactured products using lumber purchased from local smalls and substitute with other supply only when material is not locally available. The rational of this undertaking is primarily to meet the growing demand for pressure treated lumber and related products in Newfoundland.Construction of the proposed facility will begin upon issue of approvals, with an anticipated construction period of four months.

  • May 16, 2013 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
