Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a waste recovery facility approximately8.5 kilometres from the Town of Whitbourne, south of the Trans Canada Highway andnorthwest of Peak Pond. The new facility will be accessed through an existing gravelsurface road which will require clearing and widening. The facility will be comprised ofthree components: a waste recovery facility, a composting facility and a maintenancebuilding. The facility will serve communities and residents in the surrounding area.Construction is scheduled to commence in early summer of 2014.

• February 18, 2014 – The undertaking was registered.
• March 25, 2014 – Deadline for public comments.
• April 4, 2014 – The minister’s decision is due.
• May 14, 2014 – Environmental preview report required.
• June 27, 2014 – The minister announced that the project is withdrawn.
