Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop a 25.6 hectare quarry immediately west to its current sand and gravel quarry at Black Mountain/Little Soldiers Pond.  This proposed site is approximately 1.8 kilometres southwest of Incinerator Road, off the Foxtrap Access Road.  Site access will be via Incinerator Road and Newcrete’s existing private access road and other existing access roads within its current quarry lease and the proposed quarry.   Quarry operations will include excavation, crushing and loading of sand and gravel materials at the proposed site and transport to the processing equipment located at the current quarry lease.  The majority of processing equipment will remain located within the current quarry lease.   The quarry is proposed in order to meet increasing market demands for high quality sand and gravel in municipal, industrial and offshore developments.  Development of the quarry is proposed to begin in September 2015.
