Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a registration to install a treatment plant to treat non-hazardous waste drilling mud utilizing indirect thermal desorption process at their existing operations site on Logy Bay Road, St. John’s. Thermal desorption is not incineration. The process involves physically separating volatile contaminants from the solids in a heated chamber. The vaporized contaminants are then removed from the chamber, condensed, separated and recovered for recycling, treatment or disposal. The solids are also recovered, treated, and transported to disposal. The assembly of the plant would begin on May 1, 2016 and operation would commence by May 8, 2016.

  • September 22, 2015 – The undertaking was registered.
  • October 28, 2015 – Deadline for public comments.
  • November 6, 2015 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
  • December 14, 2015 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
  • December 23, 2015 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
