Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop a scrap yard near Ship Harbor, off Route 102 on the Avalon Peninsula, Placentia Bay.  The 0.54 hectare site will be located in a former quarry on the south side of Route 102 approximately 1.3 kilometres from the community of Fox Harbor. Scrap automobiles, steel, aluminum, etc. will be delivered to the site for storage until removed by recycling companies for disposal.  The site will also be used for storage of heavy equipment.

• December 25, 2015 – Deadline for public comments.
• December 31, 2015 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
• January 7, 2016 – Project Withdrawn.
